SCENE 01 / UNDERWATER CAMERA OPERATORS
Underwater Filming Services
Certified underwater cinematography for marine, pool, and aquatic productions across Colombia.
Underwater camera operators combine professional diving certification with cinema camera expertise to capture footage beneath the surface. In Colombia, operators work in the warm Caribbean waters of Cartagena and San Andrés, the Pacific coast of Chocó, and the Rosario Islands coral reefs, delivering stunning tropical underwater imagery.
We connect you with certified underwater camera professionals who bring the right combination of diving experience and cinematographic skill. Our network covers Colombia's Caribbean and Pacific coasts as well as studio tank facilities in Bogotá. We coordinate waterproof housing, lighting, safety divers, and logistics so your underwater sequences are captured safely and to the highest visual standard.

Caribbean, Pacific, and Amazon underwater units with SeaCam and Gates housings
Here is the run-down. Colombia is the only South American country bordering both the Caribbean. The Pacific, with the Amazon basin and the Magdalena and Apaporis river systems layered on top — and our underwater camera ops cover all three water types under one set up unit.
Caribbean diving runs from Cartagena's Bocagrande coast out to the Islas del Rosario (a 30-minute boat transfer, with the underwater coral park inside PNN Corales del Rosario y San Bernardo), down the coast to Tayrona's protected coves, and offshore to the San Andrés y Providencia archipelago — the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, with some of the clearest visibility in the Caribbean basin and a marine biodiversity equal to Belize. Pacific work centers on Bahía Solano and Nuquí in the Chocó department, where humpback whale migration runs July through October and Inspire Colombia's underwater team keeps a dive-and-cinema unit operating out of Bahía Málaga.
River and freshwater experts shoot the Río Apaporis (Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Ciro Guerra's Embrace of the Serpent location), the Amazon basin around Leticia, and the Magdalena lowland wetlands. All operators hold professional PADI, CMAS, or SSI certifications set for the filming depth, with commercial dive credentials for productions running below 30m.
Camera packages start with SeaCam underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini LF (the standard for theatrical work) and extend through Gates housings for RED Komodo, V-Raptor, and Sony Venice 2 bodies, plus Nauticam systems for Sony FX9 / FX6 hybrid documentary work and GoPro Hero 12 Black + DJI Osmo Action 4 packages for B-cam and POV coverage. Lighting runs Keldan Video 8X and Light & Motion Sola Pro LED underwater units in waterproof housings rated to 60m, with surface bounce setups for shallow Caribbean pool-clear water and dedicated underwater HMI packages for deeper Pacific work where particulate density is higher.
Safety rigs include certified safety divers (minimum 1:1 ratio for actor-in-water sequences), hyperbaric chamber standby in Cartagena and San Andrés, surface-supplied air for extended shot lengths, and dive computers logged against project insurance. Permits cover ANLA biodiversity authorizations for PNN Corales del Rosario, Tayrona, and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta marine zones; cabildo consents are set up for Wayuu coastal zones in La Guajira and indigenous community waters in the Apaporis.
FAQ
Professional Underwater Operations
What certifications do your underwater operators hold?
Our underwater camera operators hold professional PADI, CMAS, or equivalent certifications appropriate for the filming depths and conditions. Many hold specialist underwater cinematography certifications and have HSE or equivalent commercial diving qualifications for complex productions.
What camera systems can you use underwater?
We operate underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. Housing selection depends on your camera package, required features, and depth requirements. We also use specialized underwater cinema cameras.
Can you film with actors underwater?
Yes. We work with trained water safety coordinators and provide actor coaching for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers. Complex underwater stunts require specialized coordination and safety planning.
What locations in Colombia are suitable for underwater filming?
Colombia offers diverse underwater filming locations: Caribbean (clear water, marine life), Caribbean coast (dramatic conditions), lakes and rivers (freshwater environments), and numerous studio tanks and pools for controlled shoots.
How do you handle underwater lighting?
We use specialized underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can penetrate effectively. Deep or murky water requires dedicated underwater lighting packages planned during pre-production.
What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?
All underwater work requires risk assessments, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency protocols. We comply with Colombian diving regulations and film industry safety standards. Complex sequences may require hyperbaric chamber standby.
