SCENE 01 / STEADICAM GIMBAL OPERATION

Steadicam & Gimbal Services

Professional stabilized camera operation for smooth, dynamic shots across Colombia.

Scroll

Steadicam and gimbal systems deliver smooth, stabilized camera movement that follows action through dynamic environments. Whether tracking through Cartagena's colonial walled city or navigating Bogotá's dynamic La Candelaria district, these tools eliminate unwanted vibration and shake, enabling operators to execute fluid tracking shots, walk-and-talks, and complex choreographed sequences with cinematic precision.

We connect you with skilled Steadicam and gimbal operators who bring both technical proficiency and creative instinct to your production. Working with Colombian equipment providers like Cinetel and rental houses in Bogotá, our team coordinates the right stabilization platform for your camera package and shooting requirements, ensuring seamless integration with your camera department.

On Location

Tiffen, Volt, Trinity, and DJI Ronin operators built for Andean terrain and Walled City alleys

Here is the layout. Colombia's stabilized-camera ops come up through two converging pipelines: the Universidad Nacional and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Centro Ático cinematography programs in Bogotá feed classically trained Steadicam operators on Tiffen rigs with Volt stabilization and Trinity 2 head systems, while Black Magic Design certifications and on-set telenovela work at RCN and Caracol have produced a strong gimbal operator bench fluent on Freefly MoVI Pro, DJI Ronin 4D, Ronin 2, and Ronin S handheld systems.

The Monos production trained an entire generation in long-take handheld choreography across volcanic terrain (Mauricio Vidal's Sundance-Jury cinematography moved Sony Venice 2 packages through Páramo de Chingaza at altitude on stabilized rigs). The Embrace of the Serpent jungle work pushed Easyrig vests and gimbal endurance to four-day hike-in conditions through Amazon canopy. Our operators carry their own rigs in most cases — Steadicam M2 and Master Series for cinema-camera support, Trinity 2 hybrid heads for low-mode reveals, Volt-helped operation for one-take dialogue blocks, plus full DJI Ronin 4D 8K cinema kits and Movi Pro packages for lighter run-and-gun.

Camera compatibility runs the full cinema range — ARRI Alexa 35, Alexa Mini LF, Sony Venice 2, RED V-Raptor 8K, plus Sony FX9 / FX6 and Canon C500 Mk II hybrid rigs. Pre-production for tricky sequences includes 1-2 hours of on-set rehearsal as standard, with dedicated half-day rehearsals booked separately for elaborate one-take work like the long Cartagena Walled City handheld passes through Getsemaní's narrow alleys or the Comuna 13 Metrocable / escalator choreography in Medellín that Pablo Trapero's productions established as a template.

Sierra Nevada / Ciudad Perdida shoots use Easyrig vests on the four-day hike-in approach, with porters carrying battery and accessory loads separately from operator kit. Cartagena's UNESCO heritage zone enforces silent-zone protocols and vehicle restrictions — operators work foot-and-hand through Castillo San Felipe, Plaza Santo Domingo, and the colonial street grid without dolly access. Gimbal-to-Steadicam transfers for vehicle-mount, helicopter-to-ground, or crane handoffs are set up through a single key grip / camera-department contract.

FAQ

Our Equipment & Expertise

When should I choose Steadicam versus gimbal stabilization?

Steadicam excels at long takes, heavy cinema cameras, and smooth organic movement. Gimbals offer more mobility for run-and-gun situations, lighter setups, and dynamic low-angle shots. Many productions use both depending on specific shot requirements.

What camera systems can your operators support?

Our operators work with all major cinema cameras including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, and Blackmagic on Steadicam rigs. Gimbal operators support these plus lighter systems like Canon C300, Sony FX6, and mirrorless cameras.

How much rehearsal time is needed for complex Steadicam shots?

Complex choreographed shots typically require 1-2 hours of on-set rehearsal. For elaborate one-take sequences, we recommend a dedicated rehearsal day or half-day before the actual shoot.

Do operators bring their own equipment?

Most of our Steadicam operators are owner-operators with their own rigs. Gimbal equipment can be operator-owned or rented separately. We coordinate equipment sourcing based on your production's needs and budget.

Can you combine Steadicam with other camera movement?

Yes. We regularly execute shots that combine Steadicam or gimbal with dollies, cranes, vehicles, and cable cam systems. Complex sequences require additional coordination and planning.

What are typical day rates for Steadicam operators?

Day rates vary based on operator experience, equipment included, and production type. Rates cover the operator and their stabilization rig; camera, lenses, and accessories are typically separate. Contact us for specific quotes.

Productions in Colombia that need this often pair it with Director of Photography Services, Multi-Camera Shoots, and Drone Videography for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Virtual Production and Gaffer & Lighting Services.
