Here is how this works in practice. Moodboard creation in Colombia is a regional exercise as much as a creative one, because the visual language shifts radically across the four cordilleras and three coastlines. Our visual designers build palette decks that separate the Pacific verdant green of Chocó (Bahía Solano, Nuquí, the 13,000mm/year rainforest) from the Caribbean turquoise and ochre of Cartagena de Indias and the Islas del Rosario, the Andean ochre and slate of Bogotá's Candelaria rooftops and Monserrate fog, and the pastel coffee-town vernacular of Salento, Filandia, and the wider Eje Cafetero UNESCO landscape.

Each board pairs cinematography references — Disney's Encanto (2021) for saturated magical-realism colour, David Gallego's black-and-white anthropological frame in Ciro Guerra's Embrace of the Serpent (2015), Apichatpong's atmospheric Pacific-coast moodboards from Memoria (2021) shot with Tilda Swinton in Pereira and the Chocó — with photographic references the production designer can mood-match against real Colombian locations the recce team has already cleared.

Beyond palette, our team builds out the cultural and literary scaffolding directors lean on when shooting in Colombia. García Márquez's Macondo is the gravitational reference for the Caribbean interior. We cite specific story elements — the yellow butterflies of Cien Años de Soledad, the rain that falls for four years eleven months and two days, the magical realism textures Netflix's Macondo (2025) is now industrialising — so the board reads as more than image scraping.

Wayuu mochila weaving palettes anchor La Guajira boards; Kogi and Arhuaco mountain-spirit colour references inform Sierra Nevada lookbooks; Salsa-era Cali nightlife, Medellín paisa modernity, and Bogotá's bogotano grey set the urban registers. Deliverables ship as layered PDF, Frame.io review boards, and printed lookbooks with annotated colour swatches, golden-hour timing for each shoot region, and side-by-side comparisons of the reference frame against the recce photograph — so the DP, gaffer, and production designer arrive at prep aligned on the same Colombian visual target.
