Casting Directors

Here is the short of it. Casting for a production in Colombia draws on one of the most prolific acting pipelines in Latin America — a fusion of the RCN and Caracol telenovela factories (which export to Spain, Mexico, the US Hispanic market, and increasingly to global Netflix), the festival-circuit auteur work of Ciro Guerra, Cristina Gallego, Alejandro Landes, Laura Mora, and Franco Lolli, and indigenous-language cinema that traces back to Embrace of the Serpent's Cubeo and Ocaina dialogue and Birds of Passage's Wayuunaiki.

Here is what we have to work with. Our casting directors have Ariadna Beas, whose work on Embrace of the Serpent and Birds of Passage carried both Ciudad Lunar shoots through Cannes, the Oscar shortlist, and the foreign-language race, alongside a roster of ACA-registered (Asociación Colombiana de Actores) pros supplying principal and supporting talent to Dynamo, 64-A Films, Rhayuela, Sambia Films, and the Bogotá-based service houses handling Netflix originals like Narcos, Wild District, and Pálpito. Principal pools draw on graduates of the Escuela Internacional de Cine de San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba, Universidad Nacional, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and Bogotá's 40-plus active theatre firms including Teatro Petra and Casa del Teatro Nacional.

Here is the layout. Sessions run at pro casting rooms across Bogotá's Chapinero district, Medellín's Poblado, Cartagena, Cali, and Barranquilla, with full self-tape pipelines, live video auditions for remote directors, and recorded in-person reads for callback review. Bilingual Spanish–English casting is core to the practice — Colombian neutral Spanish is the preferred dub-track standard for Latin American distribution. We shortlist actors with logged English-language credits for global co-productions structured under Colombia's treaty network with Spain, France, India, Argentina, Mexico, Panama, and the Ibermedia membership.

Here is how the work shapes up. Indigenous-language casting flows through cabildos and classic authorities in the Wayuu communities of La Guajira (Riohacha, Manaure, Uribia, Cabo de la Vela), the Arhuaco and Kogi peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and the Amazonian Tikuna, Witoto, and Cubeo communities around Leticia. Background, crowd, and specialty extras (vallenato musicians, cumbia and salsa dancers, equestrians for Caribbean ranch sequences, narco-era period extras) set up through our AD network, with all principal-cast spend structured to qualify cleanly under the Colombia Film Law 40% incentive through Proimágenes Colombia compliance and ACA collective bargaining standards.
